In the area of Decatur near present day Point Mallard Park and especially on the Limestone County side of the Tennessee River and lands which were originally intact, but now covered by the river was a Paleo-Indian site known as The Quad This site was rediscovered in the early 1950s by a group significantly led by Dr. Frank Soday who was an award winning chemist at Chemstrand (later, Monsanto/Solutia/Ascend) and was instrumental in the development of synthetic fibers including AstroTurf and an early successful synthetic artery. He was a founder and the first president of the Alabama Archeological Society.
This age of this site is still the source of debate, but is clearly thousands of years ago with some estimates being 10,000 or more years ago.
